About Nehir
Hi, I’m April! I’m currently studying Actuarial Science at the University of York and completing a 13-month Actuarial placement at Legal & General.
Maths has always been one of my strongest subjects. I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE Mathematics, Grade 8 in GCSE Further Mathematics, and A grades in both A-Level Mathematics and A-Level Further Mathematics.
I also have previous experience supporting GCSE Maths students through my sixth form’s voluntary tutoring programme, where I gained experience explaining mathematical concepts and working through problems with students.
Before starting my current placement at Legal & General, I also completed an 8-week actuarial internship at Hamilton Insurance.
Having completed my GCSEs and A-Levels relatively recently, I understand the challenges students can face with exam-style questions and applying what they have learned under exam conditions.
I aim to create a friendly and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is to help students build their confidence in Maths, strengthen weaker areas and become more independent when approaching problems.
I am also bilingual in English and Turkish and can provide Turkish-language support where helpful.

My lessons are one-to-one and tailored to each student, whether they are working towards a pass, looking to improve their current grade, or aiming for Grades 7–9.
I teach GCSE Maths at both Foundation and Higher level, and can also support students studying GCSE Further Maths where this is offered by their school.
Before we begin, I like to understand the student’s current level, target grade, exam board, strengths and weaker topics, as well as what they are currently covering at school. If possible, students can also share the textbook, revision guide or resources used by their school so that our lessons can complement their schoolwork.
Lessons can include:
* Clear, step-by-step explanations of difficult topics
* GCSE-style exam questions and past-paper practice
* Identifying and strengthening weaker areas
* Problem-solving and exam technique
* Working on questions or topics the student has struggled with at school
* Targeted homework between lessons where helpful
As exams approach, we can place more emphasis on past papers, timing, exam technique and common mistakes.
I offer a free 30-minute trial session, giving us the opportunity to discuss the student’s goals, work through a few questions together and see whether my teaching style is a good fit for them.
I can also provide Turkish-language support where helpful, while helping students become confident with the English mathematical terminology and wording they will encounter in their GCSE exams.
