About Ava
My name is Ava Lewis and I'm an undergraduate student at Lancaster University, studying English Literature and Creative Writing. I have a great passion for music, from classical to alternative, and play several instruments - namely the piano and the harp. I've also been part of several choirs and enjoy singing. Teaching music and musical theory is exciting to me because it allows me to share my passion for the subject with others; learning to play music, in my mind, is an incredible form of magic. I'm familiar with exam pieces and exam expectations, but I also love to teach recreational students who just want to gain musical literacy and learn their favourite show tunes or film soundtracks.

My lessons focus not only on providing a solid foundation for further learning in Piano, but providing a larger understanding of musical theory and the musical world in general. Lessons are structured to include practice of musical basics like scales and arpeggios, learning pieces (both recreational and exam-regulation), and practicing reading music. This can be expanded to include preparation for ABRSM exams - such as musicality practice. The breadth with which these topics are covered depends on the length of the lesson; I can provide 30 minute flash lessons that run through basics and facilitate practicing pieces, or full 60 minute sessions that ensure depth of learning and development. I have six months of experience as a tutor of beginners piano for young children's recreational piano, but working within ABRSM guidelines is something that I'm very familiar with due to my experience with their exams. I teach pianists of all ages who are beginners or exam pianists up to (inclusively) Grade Two. I do require my students to provide their own piano and sheet music.
