About Dylan
I'm a Grade 12 student in Vancouver, maintaining a 95% average while applying to top engineering programs like Waterloo and UBC. I've always been the person friends come to when they're stuck on a problem, whether that's helping debug code for a robotics project or explaining why their physics homework isn't making sense. That pattern of breaking down complex ideas into something clear is what led me to start tutoring. I know what it feels like to be completely stuck on a concept. Last year I struggled with trigonometric identities until someone explained them differently, and that taught me the same topic can click for different people in completely different ways. Outside of academics, I'm the Director of Sponsorship for STRIVE, organizing a tech competition bringing over three hundred high school students to UBC this February. I've competed in hackathons, built robotics projects, and teach financial literacy to elementary students through Junior Achievement BC. These experiences show I'm organized, I can explain technical concepts clearly to different age groups, and I follow through on commitments.

Every lesson follows a clear structure because I've learned that students learn best when they know what to expect. We start with a five-minute check-in where you tell me what's confusing you, what homework is due, and what tests are coming up. This helps me tailor the session to your immediate needs rather than just working through a generic curriculum.
The core of the lesson is forty minutes of focused learning. I break down the concept you're struggling with into smaller pieces, using real examples instead of abstract textbook language. For instance, if we're working on quadratic equations, I'll show you three different methods: factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. Before explaining when to use each one based on what the question looks like. We work through problems together, and I pay attention to where your thinking goes off track so we can fix the underlying confusion, not just get the right answer.
The last fifteen minutes are crucial. You work through problems on your own while I'm there to catch mistakes immediately and answer questions. This builds your confidence because you're doing the work yourself, but you have a safety net. You leave each session with a clear understanding of the concept and a specific plan for your homework or upcoming test.
What makes my approach different is that I took these exact courses within the last year or two. I know which topics your teacher probably emphasized, which types of questions show up on tests, and which concepts students typically find confusing. I remember thinking that parametric equations in Pre-Calc 12 made no sense until someone showed me they're just x and y coordinates that change over time. Those recent struggles make me a better teacher because I haven't forgotten what it's like to learn this material for the first time.
My lessons work best for students in Grades 8 through 12 who want someone patient, who explains things in normal language instead of textbook jargon, and who understands that school moves fast and it's easy to fall behind. Whether you need to catch up on material you missed, prepare for an upcoming test, or get ahead before the school year starts, I'll meet you wherever you're at and build from there.

I worked with Dylan for most of this semester when I was really struggling in pre calc and he helped me bring my grade up a lot. He's super good at explaining things like logarithms and trig identities without making you feel dumb for not getting it right away. He actually takes the time to figure out where you're confused instead of just going through practice problems. Honestly one of the better tutors I've tried and I'd recommend him if you're having trouble with Grade 11 math.
Dylan's been tutoring me in Grade 11 math this year and he's honestly the best tutor I've had. He breaks down the harder stuff like rational functions and trig in ways that actually make sense instead of just throwing formulas at you. He's really patient and won't move on until you get it which is why I went from struggling to keeping a 95 average. If you need help with Grade 11 math I'd definitely recommend him.
