About Natalie

My name is Natalie and when I was in secondary school there was initially no subject that got me really excited. That was until about year 9 when we had to pick our GCSE options and I chose History and fell in love with it. I had a really amazing teacher who was super passionate and really sparked my interest and is honestly the reason I pursued history to degree level. I think having the right teacher makes all the difference to ones learning experience and is why I am so passionate about teaching.

About the lesson

My lessons cater to the needs of my student. Having ADHD, I understand the difficulty of conventional teaching methods. Thus I try to understand what is the best form of learning for my student and take it from there. What is important to note is that History is fun. It's shocking, amazing, very often dark and tragic but really reaches deep and reveals the realms of the human psyche and illustrates the long journey we have been on to reach where we are today. And if a teacher cannot make that interesting then that is a huge problem! Therefore, my classes will not just stay strapped to the computer. I like to get creative; draw charts, maps, timelines. Ultimately I want to have a discussion with my student, gauge their opinions about why something happened, do they agree with the established histography? If not then why? I also understand that for especially GCSE and A level, the creativity that one is awarded at degree level is less and as such I wish to strictly follow the syllabus of whichever respective examination board my student is on. By giving the exam board what they want, there is no way a student cannot receive top marks, and I wish to do that for my students.
