About Mariana

While I am young myself, I can assure that I have ample training in teaching and experience with a variety of students. I do my utmost to communicate with the parents AND the students, communicate with their teachers from school as needed, share additional resources I find helpful, and treat every student with the respect and consideration they deserve. I always go the extra mile in my efforts to help students shine and grow. My education comprises a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Chemistry, a minor in Mathematics, and a Bachelor's in Media/Communication Studies. I also speak fluent Portuguese but will do what I can to accommodate any language barriers. I really hope we have the opportunity to work together and that I am able to help you in your journey to grow and succeed.

About the lesson

Knowing that every student is different and has different life experiences, I personalize my teachings to each student, using examples, references, and resources they are most likely to connect with.

A typical plan involves reviewing any new content the student is struggling to understand, followed by doing practice problems, and ultimately finishing with some assistance on homework. I employ the method of showing how to do something while explaining it, having the student do a question but with my active assistance, and finally having them do one on their own.

I have worked with many students over the years, spanning from helping elementary schoolers with reading and math to college students taking General Chemistry. My experience encompasses work as a Teaching Assistance, an MCAT chemistry instructor, and working at a community day school. All of these experiences helped me form my mentality around teaching and allowed me to develop my own teaching approaches. And I know how to speak the language of young students.

The lessons I am able to teach include Mathematics from elementary school through Algebra I, High School level chemistry, and General Chemistry.
