About Tegan
I have been a teacher for over a year, straight from finishing my conservatoire studies. The world of music education is an incredibly rewarding place for students to learn. Whilst there are overwhelming aspects too, such as anxiety, having a friendly and encouraging teacher who also pays attention to the small details will be imperative to progress. My teaching ethos stands firm on the principle that music should and can be accessible for everybody, and I aspire to help my students of any age and ability access and achieve their full potential.

I am a compassionate and supportive teacher offering lessons to students of all abilities, with a particular passion for helping beginner and intermediate students progress.
Primarily a bassoon and flute player, and experienced in general woodwind, I offer supportive and enriching 1:1 personalised tuition based on each student's musical aspirations and needs:
This includes:
- Learning skills on a new instrument
- Building instrumental skills through beginner/intermediate/advanced levels
- Taking practical grade examinations
- Music theory tutoring (including bespoke additional tutoring for GCSE music students, and preparation for ABRSM theory exams)
- Advice and mentoring in preparation for auditions
In sessions together musicianship will be explored with a professional outlook towards achieving student goals. Lessons are typically 30 minutes minimum but can stretch up to an hour in length. I have experience in teaching both children and adults. Lessons are available to students from age 7 upwards due to the practical and technical aspects of playing woodwind instruments.
I have a strong background and over a decade of experience in instrumental performance, beginning in local ensembles through to now having played alongside professional orchestras. I bring my vast experience from individual, chamber/small group, and orchestral playing to my work as a teacher, underpinning this with a solid understanding of music theory meaning students access a well-rounded set of musical skills to thrive. Music theory provides key transferable skills across musical discipline, and this can be focused on in depth in theory sessions, separate to practical instrumental tuition if requested.
