About Gemma

I am a recent graduate of Skidmore College where studied English and Political Science with a minor in Theater. Throughout college, I pushed myself to study many disciplines and take advantage of my liberal arts education. As a result, I often found myself taking a class in the English department, for example, sandwiched by a class in the Biology department and voice lessons. This allowed me to gain a broad scope of knowledge at the college level.
I am an avid learner and have always loved to share my passion for learning with others. In high school, I was a peer tutor for Spanish and English, as well as an active part of the peer leadership program— a program where seniors mentor a group of incoming freshmen to help with their transition into high school. I also took on the challenging and rewarding position of Editor-in-Chief of my high school’s literary magazine, Reflections, for two years. Under my jurisdiction, we were awarded two gold medals from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. At Skidmore, I worked as the theater department’s Ad Sales and Membership manager and, most recently, as the Skidmore Theater Newsletter Editor-in-Chief, where I was responsible for writing and editing articles posted to the Skidmore Theater website. I was also the Treasurer of my acapella group, The Skidmore Sonneteers.
In my final semester at Skidmore, I worked closely with my creative writing professor and mentor, Greg Hrbek, to curate a selection of short stories to culminate my fiction writing experience at Skidmore. Through this process, I gained a great appreciation for the art of writing, editing, and rewriting.

My lessons will be creative, fun, and informative. I never lecture; I prefer collaboration and discussion.
