Graduate student at UWO tutoring classes in the humanities and essay writing.

Methodology

Academic writing requires a lot of time, practice and feedback. Feedback gives you an opportunity to gain an outside perspective on your work and can identify issues you may not notice yourself. Receiving feedback can help with structure and flow of your work.

Hillary's Resume

My name is Hillary Kiazyk and I am a teaching and research assistant at UWO. I grade papers and mark exams while also providing students with feedback and help. If you are looking to improve your essay writing or need help studying for an exam in the humanities I can help you get that extra edge!

My tutoring is intended for students in University level classes however I can also help with high school and grade school students. I have previously been a teaching assistant for Grade 10 History and Grade 10 Civics and Careers but I am qualified to help with any arts and humanities course or basic essay writing. I have also assisted students that are ELL or ESL with essay writing.

I prefer to work with drafts of papers or projects where I can have a chance to look at your style. If you do not have a draft of a current project a previous writing sample will be sufficient. If you are starting from scratch I can help by going over the assignment guidelines with you and assisting with the preparation of your outline and introduction.

Academic writing can feel very challenging but with the correct help and good techniques anyone can write well!

Hillary is completing her masters degree at Western University this spring and is well qualified in the field of anthropology. One of the her experiences that I found fascinating was her work with 3D printing of fragile artifacts so the originals could be securely stored' and the copies could be available for studies. Hillaryi is a hard working, knowledgeable, congenial person; you would do well to seek her services.

Her ways of teaching is very professional, and is also very neat. She always checks out the mistakes I have made in my sentences, and helps me to fix it. My English marks has improved very much after she started to tutor me in these past three months. She even checks my work after the tutoring and gives the feed backs which is really helpful. If you are needing help with your gramers and essays works, I totally will recommend you to take her session.

Hillary's interview

QUESTION 01 | 05
When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
Hillary — I began studying anthropology and archaeology after taking an aptitude test in high school. Archaeology blended a lot of my interests and became a bit of a passion for me. I started teaching while in grad school and loved it! I love sharing the writing skills that my disciplines have taught me.
QUESTION 02 | 05
What makes you passionate about your subject?
Hillary — Teaching in general is something I really enjoy because I get to see so much progress. Those improvements (major or minor) are what make me passionate about teaching.
QUESTION 03 | 05
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
Hillary — I love learning from students. I used to think of teaching as really one sided where the instructor is the one giving instruction and feedback, but it is more than that. Teaching students at the high school level and above is so much fun because all students have so much to bring to the table. Some of the discussions that I have had with students about the books they are reading are so thought provoking and interesting!
QUESTION 04 | 05
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
Hillary — I had an instructor that focused a lot on building up academic confidence in their students. This made a huge difference for me!
QUESTION 05 | 05
What are your keys to success?
Hillary — 1. Be yourself, don't worry about what your peers are doing and the grades they are getting.
2. Don't use a thesaurus unless you really know what you are doing (I promise it usually does not go well)
3. Stretch yourself outside of your comfort zone. It is easy to play it safe, but that isn't always the best way to learn.
4. Have fun!
