I graduated Framingham State with a major in mathematics. The important thing about Algebra is that I can use this every day in life. Algebra is used by people and they don't even realize it!

About Patrick

I, Patrick Kelcourse, Graduated from Framingham State College in 2000 with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education. I then taught at the middle school level teaching mathematics and Algebra 1 to the students. The Algebra 1 I taught was at the high school honors level to challenge the students in their learning. I did teach them using many different pathways, including online classes for the more advanced students.

I had supervised a group of students taking Geometry online at a University in California. This was an interesting group of kids and a challenge to help them as a teacher, for they were all at different places in the curriculum. Some teachers were very impressed with how we did this and how they did learn.

I had taught these students for almost twenty years before moving to Maine and teaching high school students Algebra 1 as well.

Algebra 1 is a very challenging class for many students because they are dealing with variables on a much more regular basis. They are not only learning Linear functions (where their graph is a straight line), they are learning exponential functions, arithmetic of polynomials, square root functions and Quadratic functions. It is a very challenging course.

The students can and will be successful.

I later Graduated from Framingham State University in Educational Leadership in 2012. I have also become a mentor to our school's robotics team with FIRST, an international robotics competition company, the largest in the world.

I have been teaching for about 26 years since I began and I have learned a lot about how to reach different students and their needs. How to get them to understand their learning.

I have learned many different ways to teach Algebra 1 in a classroom setting. The most effective way changes with the students and how they learn. A typical lesson for me in a public high school went like this:

A warm-up to get the students thinking about what we will be doing on that day.

Going over that material, it may have been a homework assignment, an introduction to the lesson, a form of the lesson, it can be many things.

Going over the lesson with the students participating as much as possible. Getting them involved is extremely important for their learning.

Class work. Them working on their own or with others is very important for them to do on a daily basis. They need to learn by doing, not by just listening.

An exit ticket. This is used to measure how they are doing that day in class.

Does this mean would do this every day? I would hope not. Students need to learn how they learn to be a better fit for them. I have taught online classes before and will be doing so again, it does depend on the students and how they choose to learn.

The students learning is up to them and how they choose to learn. I can teach and do so well. They can learn and do so well.
I will be focusing on Algebra and its uses in the classroom and more importantly, outside of the classroom where they can use it every day in their lives.

Your child is the student and the objective is for them to learn Algebra through tutoring with me, together we can do this and be great at it!

Your student is the main objective of this class and they can learn.

To be successful in mathematics is to be successful in anything that they choose to do.
