I always try my best to bring a very upbeat, optimistic, and (dare I say) delightful attitude to everything that I do. I have a great deal of patience and I believe in challenging my students but without overwhelming them. I want my students to feel comfortable, learn, and have fun in their sessions with me. My hope is that my students will leave my sessions having learned something with a smile on their face.
My Education - I have a BA in Honours English from St. Mary's University, a BA in Business/Institutional Writing from York University, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Children's Media. In February, Most recently, I received a 120-Hour Advanced TESOL Certificate of Educational Studies in TESOL from ONTesol. I have the student debt to prove it!
My Teaching Experience - I have been an ESL teacher for Microlanguage/First Empire since September of 2018. Every morning, I wake up bright and early to tutor and teach English to Chinese students over online video chat. My classes are one-on-one and so far I’ve had students as young as three and as old as 50!
Experience with Children and Children’s Media - In 2013, I graduated from the Children’s Media Post-Graduate program from Centennial College. There I learned about every aspect of the Children’s Media industry including screenwriting, book writing, child development, production, digital media, and more. On several occasions, we would visit daycares and kindergartens. I then went on to work with children at the kidsmediacentre where I would visit kindergartens and interview them in large groups. Working with children is always extremely rewarding, fun, and a great challenge to my immune system. Lastly, my wife and I have 11 nieces and nephews and a three month baby girl of our very own.
Years of Writing for Children - I have written both kids’ books and kids’ television! for kids several fun and educational non-fiction children's books for Learning A-Z and Science A-Z. These books were meant for kids aged 7-13 years old. I have also written several different television shows for children as young as 4 and as old as 16.

Perfect! Michael it's the best english teacher I've ever had! He's friendly, polite and customize each class depending on what you're interested in learning. He also provides great resources for you to practice! 100% recommended!
Daniel and I have had some wonderful meetings! His English is already very strong but he wanted to practice his English more before he begins his internship this summer. We have some great chats and he's very helpful in telling me what he wants to learn and practice. He's the nicest guy in the world and I couldn't recommend him more. I'm looking forward to meeting up again soon! Thanks Daniel! - Michael T. Foley
I have been Michael’s friend for over 15 years. Michael is a genuine and wonderful person who is kind and approachable. He is committed to ensuring those around him are cared for and comfortable. He is highly creative and truly interested in the material he will be presenting. Michael knows how to encourage others and does so with zero judgment. He is a dedicated worker and is able to adapt to meet the needs of whoever he is working with. Michael has been interested in writing for as long as I have known him and I recommend him as a tutor because of his passion and interest in the subject material. Michael is truly the best.
I am Michael’s wife and I’ve spent the past several months at home with our new baby. During that time, I’ve had the pleasure of listening to and watching Michael teach English classes online. Michael understands the importance of engaging his students. He puts in the extra effort to make each class fun and it really shows in the response from his students. He also recognizes that every student has unique needs and tailors his lessons according to each learner. As a professional writer who holds an English degree and is also TESL certified, Michael is an ideal choice for anyone looking to improve their English proficiency while having fun along the way.
I have known Michael for over ten years and I can honestly say he is a kind, warmhearted person who would do whatever it takes to help someone in need. I met Michael during my first year of university and we have been close ever since!
I would recommend Michael as a tutor because he will provide thoughtful and personalized feedback to his students while also being approachable and relatable.
Michael is a judgement free person, who has a lot of experience in both writing and teaching. You can't go wrong getting ESL lessons from such a well-rounded individual!
I have known Michael for seven years. We first met at the Children's Media program at Centennial College and have since become writing partners for the last three years. Our writing company is called Just Ducky. In my time working with Michael, I can tell you he is smart and hard-working but brings a lot of lighthearted fun to everything he does. He is great with people and brings a lot of dorky fun to everything he does. I know that he would be an excellent tutor. He makes people feel comfortable and he takes the time to get to know them. I know that he will do the same thing with his tutoring. For a fun, creative, kind tutor you can't find a better guy than Michael T. Foley.
