About Philip
I have had the pleasure of teaching piano and brass instruments to local families over the last decade.
My schedule is usually full but due to some students going to university I have a rare opening for 4 new students.
I have been teaching music for over 10 years and I have taught students from their first note to grade 8 and music college.
Teaching for me is a vocation and something I was meant to do.

Hi
I go to Phil for Baritone lessons most weeks. I started learning as an adult some years ago and had taught myself but I wanted further guidance and tuition from an experienced tutor. Phil is an excellent teacher and musician who seems to be able to teach several instruments including piano and euphonium/ baritone. His music theory knowledge is also excellent. He prepares ahead for lessons, sets realistic goals and challenges, he is friendly, patient and respectful. He has given me much more confidence and my improved performance has been noticed at band practice too.Phil is an amazing music teacher who explains things clearly and makes lessons genuinely fun! He’s patient, supportive, and pushes me to improve without making it stressful. I’ve learned loads and feel way more confident playing because of him!
Would definitely recommend.Phil has been teaching me trumpet for about 6 months. I am an adult learner and was an absolute beginner.
He has been great. He has real expertise and has adapted classes to fit with my strengths and weaknesses. I enjoy the lessons and I’ve been able to make much more progress than I thought I ever would.
Thoroughly recommended.Phil has been teaching our eldest two french horn and trombone respectively for a couple of years now. They both are always eager to get home on lesson day, and be ready for their session. Both have said how they like Phil's careful choice of pieces, the way he stretches their skill and how encouraging he is. He has developed in both a love for playing music and their instruments, and his style is very engaging. He clearly knows each child individually, and how to get the best out of them.
Phil has been teaching my kids piano for two years now and he’s been great. He comes to our home which really helps with our schedule. He is patient with the kids and accommodating of their different needs, with one doing grades and the others not.
Phil has the patience of a saint, which is greatly appreciated by me. His lessons follow a structure that includes a set of scales, rhythms, and finally a piece of music. He is more than happy to teach from my own home; he is always punctual. Having Phil as my teacher for the past 3 years, my playing has improved. I had difficulty reading both bass and treble lines together, but I am now a more confident pianist (not necessarily a maestro), and it is all down to his teaching methods. I would highly recommend him as your teacher.
I am a pupil of Phil's and have taken piano lesson from him for around 8 years. I find him to be patient on the occasions when I am challenged but I am also encouraged to keep pushing myself. Phil provides interesting pieces to study and lessons are varied. He listens to me and always tries to respond to any concerns I have regarding pieces we are working on.
I’ve been taking piano lessons with Phil for many years now, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. He is incredibly patient and encouraging. Phil has a way of breaking down complex pieces so they feel manageable, and his support has truly helped me grow as a musician. If you’re looking for a teacher who genuinely cares about your development, Phil is the one!
Phil has been teaching me the trumpet for over two years and I started as a complete beginner. As an adult learner, I really appreciate his methodical approach and emphasis on good technique. He gives me a broad and realistic amount of work to practice during the week and focuses the lesson on the elements I have found difficult. He is incredibly patient and lessons are always very enjoyable. I highly recommend him as a music teacher.
