About Isaac
My name is Isaac! I want to teach because every time I've done so in the past, it has brought me genuine fulfilment when a student of mine completes a melodic phrase, finishes learning a scale, plays their favourite song hands together, or some other thing they never thought they'd do! Teaching also keeps me learning. As I approach the end of my university course, tutoring gives me a huge boost when it comes to developing my craft. Over 12 years of my journey as a pianist, the last 4 have prompted and pushed me massively, and I cannot wait to share some of these skills with you.

My approach to private piano tuition is different to the traditional methods usually available when starting out on an instrument. I feel as though the life has been sucked out of instrumental music tuition lessons through exam boards such as ABRSM or Trinity, because they don't actually teach you anything that you want to learn. Granted, some academics thrive in this environment, learning baroque, classical and romantic pieces, but I feel that my students would feel happier, more motivated when learning songs that are familiar to them on that home piano/keyboard that's been sitting there for yonks! How does it work? I personally develop piano arrangements to hit songs, whether it be Hey Jude by the Beatles, Uptown Girl by Billy Joel or something more modern like Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles. Then, depending on my students' existing skill level - you'd be surprised at how much you may already be capable of! I show you piece by piece, how to play these yourself, using the Rote Teaching method. I've played piano for over 12 years, and always used my ear when I'm learning, or writing a song, and I feel that I'm now at the stage where I feel confident enough to pass on some of these skills. This is for any age range, and I have experience teaching both children (my siblings aged 10 and 12) and adults.
