About Edison

Hi! I'm Edison, a rising senior at The Overlake School — the #1 ranked private high school in Washington State. I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and scored a 1590 on the SAT. I have a deep passion for STEM and a strong desire to help younger students gain the confidence and skills they need to succeed. As a tutor, I take pride in being patient, reliable, and adaptable. I know that every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to their unique learning style. Whether we're reviewing math fundamentals or working through a challenging concept, I aim to make the material feel approachable and engaging. I'm committed to helping students not only improve their academic performance, but also develop the problem-solving mindset that will serve them well beyond the classroom. I strive to create a supportive environment where questions are always welcome and progress is celebrated.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I believe in meeting students where they are. My lessons are highly personalized — I take the time to understand how each student learns best, then adapt my explanations, pacing, and examples to match their style. I focus on building not just academic skills, but confidence and curiosity.

A typical session begins with a quick check-in to review previous material and answer questions. From there, we dive into current topics using step-by-step explanations, guided practice, and real-world examples to make learning clear and engaging. I always encourage students to ask questions freely — no pressure, just support and progress.

What sets me apart as a tutor is that I don't just focus on memorization - I focus on the how and the methods behind solving a problem. While every math problem or coding challenge may lead to the same answer, there are various ways that one can reach that ending. I encourage my students to be able to exercise their creativity within their problem-solving and develop strategies so that they can work through any problem that they face.

As a high-achieving student (4.0 GPA, 1590 SAT), I know how to break complex topics into simple, approachable steps. I’ve been in their shoes, and I bring energy, empathy, and structure to every session.

These lessons are best suited for middle school students (Grades 5–8) who need support in math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and foundational skills) or want an introduction to coding through fun and beginner-friendly tools like Scratch.
