About Augusta

I am known as a master teacher of K-3 reading skills and a master teacher educator. For over 25 years I have led teacher workshops and taught classroom demonstration lessons for teachers in schools across the country. I am stepping away from a heavy traveling schedule and want to become more involved with the ever-growing homeschooling movement and tutoring of students who are significantly behind in decoding and fluency. Too many students can't read! Too many students cannot decode words to any level of excellence! I use a holistic approach that accelerates the mastery of decoding and fluency skills. My teaching is very practical. I use original teaching strategies to teach students to master reading the words that will be in their specific upcoming classroom lessons. I teach the Fry's Basic Word List and other word lists that the child's teacher uses. I bring original phonics charts and materials.

About the lesson

I am a highly experienced and awarded primary grade reading teacher with over 25 years as a national teacher educator.
I’m moving away from full time work in schools and want to understand and get more involved with a growing movement of families embracing homeschooling or just seeking additional after school tutoring support for their children. What are their needs? What kinds of outside support are they finding helpful? How can teachers like myself be most helpful?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Howard University and a Masters Degree in Reading Education from The College of New Rochelle, NY . I hold permanent life teaching certificates from the states of New York and California.
Because I have led primary grade teacher professional development workshops in reading and taught demonstration lessons with hundreds of primary grade students in schools and classrooms in urban city schools across the country, I have experienced the sad truth of underperforming students. Too many primary grade students can’t read to any level of excellence!
I want to tutor students who are behind in phonics and decoding skills.
Using original teaching strategies, phonics charts, and other instructional materials, I work with families as I teach and accelerate their child in the mastery—the fluid decoding of words that will be in their school lessons for the coming weeks.
I only use teaching strategies that WORK to accelerate underperforming students.!
Students need to master the basic Fry’s Sight Word List and words from their school lessons. My tutoring must directly support their school lessons.
