About Irina
I obtained my first degree in Mathematics from one of the top ranked universities in Russia. Through my studies and specialisation in the area of applied mathematics I acquired solid knowledge in mathematics, statistics, programming and numerical modelling. Moreover, by undertaking a graduation research project in numerical modelling of modern fibre-optical communication systems I gained an experience in optical communications and developed strong practical skills in these fields. During my PhD at Aston University I continued my research in optical communications. As such, the title of my thesis was "Analysis and optimisation of the performance of nonlinear optical communication systems." After completion of my PhD in 2007 I secured a position of a computational physicist/computer programmer in an Oxford-based company. In this job I developed a computer code to model optical components in a photonic integrated circuit simulator. In my other part-time computer programing position acquired in 2012 I gained an extensive experience in writing software applications in Java.
Starting from 2008 I became a tutor of Mathematics. What began as a short-term position at a summer revision course has gradually developed into a full time occupation. Working at various Oxford tutorial colleges, over the last 8 years I gained a valuable experience in teaching Mathematics and Further Mathematics to GCSE/IGCSE/IB and A level students both individually and in small groups.
