About Louisa

Psychology is my passion, and I mean that in the way that people mean it when they read about a subject in their own time, just for the joy of it.

What drew me to psychology, and what keeps me fascinated after more than two decades, is that it sits at the intersection of the scientific and the deeply human. We can map the brain, sequence genes, and run controlled experiments, yet we still cannot fully explain what it means to think, feel, or be conscious. I find that endlessly compelling. Some of my most memorable experiences have come from moments that brought that tension to life: holding a human brain and confronting the idea that everything a person ever was could be contained in something so physical.

I read widely around the subject, and I am genuinely excited when students ask questions that go beyond the specification. There is no such thing as an off-topic question in psychology.

Outside of tutoring, I also work as a fitness instructor, teaching a range of different classes at local gyms. I also have a mild obsession with quizzes and puzzles, which probably says something about me as a psychologist.

I became a teacher because I wanted to share this subject with people. I became a tutor because I wanted to give every student my full attention.

About the lesson

Unlike many tutors, I am a fully qualified Psychology and Science teacher with a PGCE and over 20 years of classroom experience. That distinction matters: I do not just know Psychology, I know how to teach it.

All sessions take place online and are built around what the student actually needs. Lessons tend to be 1 hour long, but can be adjusted to meet individual needs. I begin each lesson by asking what the student wants to focus on, rather than arriving with a predetermined plan. A Level students know where their gaps are, and that student-led approach makes for more focused, more productive sessions.

Importantly I hold a current enhanced DBS check, and all sessions are conducted with the safeguarding of students as a priority.
