About Tavasya

Hi, I'm Tavasya, a Mechanical Engineering student at UNSW. I completed the IB Diploma myself, studying Physics and Math AA at Higher Level, and while I did well, my own experience navigating the IB wasn't always as smooth as I would have liked. That's part of what motivates me to teach — I want to help students avoid the same struggles I faced and make their learning experience as clear, structured, and stress-free as possible. Beyond the IB, I believe the problem-solving skills and study strategies I've developed translate well across other curriculums too, including Grades 8-10 Math and Physics. I'm passionate about helping students not just get through their coursework, but genuinely understand and feel confident in the subjects they're studying.

About the lesson

Teaching Methodology:
I focus on building strong conceptual foundations rather than rote memorization, especially in Math and Physics where understanding the "why" behind a formula makes problem-solving far more intuitive. I break down complex topics into smaller, manageable steps, use worked examples to model problem-solving approaches, then guide students through practice questions with decreasing levels of support as their confidence grows. For IB students specifically, I tailor sessions around the IB's assessment style — command terms, mark schemes, and past paper technique — since scoring well often comes down to knowing exactly what examiners are looking for.

Lesson Length:
Sessions typically run 60 minutes, which gives enough time to review homework or trouble areas, work through new content, and finish with practice questions — with flexibility for longer sessions closer to exams if needed.

Qualifications & Experience:
I completed the IB Diploma with Physics and Math AA at Higher Level, and I'm currently studying Mechanical Engineering at UNSW. I have prior volunteer tutoring experience at a school level, primarily in Math (with some English tutoring for younger students), which gave me early experience explaining concepts clearly to different age groups and learning styles.

Who My Lessons Are For:
I tutor students from Grades 8-10 in Math and Physics, as well as IB Diploma students studying Math AA HL, Physics, and Economics. I work well with students who want to strengthen fundamentals, as well as those aiming for top grades who need exam-specific strategy and practice.
