About Aimee
I'm an Anthropology student who has been dancing for 15 years! I specialise in contemporary and hip-hop. In 2014, I was a member of STEPS Youth Dance Company in their 'Flights and Fights' production, and from 2015-2017 I was a member of Co3 Contemporary Dance Company's youth ensemble. Within these two years, I performed in one production at the Black Theatre Company, and was selected as one of four dancers to train under Ruth Osborne and the Quantum Leap ensemble, performing in 'This Poisoned Sea' (2017) in Canberra. I currently teach dance classes at UWA and love making university students feel connected with their bodies.

I love teaching university students. The goal I set for myself as a teacher each class is to get my students to open their minds and bodies. This helps foster personal style - a flare that is unique and unmistakable to that particular person. I feel as though through developing personal style, a dancer is able to connect mind and body. I achieve this through developing interpersonal relationships with my students. Through introducing myself and engaging in conversation with my students before and after class, I build bonds of trust which make it easier for individuals to experiment and open up in class. At the end of class, I get my students to watch and cheer for their peers performing. I'm also a strong believer of positive reinforcement over constructive criticism, as dance can be a very vulnerable art form, and I want my students to be empowered and uplifted at the end of each class.
A typical lesson goes for an hour, with a 10-15 minute cardio and stretching warm-up, a 40 minute class where we learn skills or a routine, and then 10 minutes of peer-sharing/performing, including a cool-down.
