About Monica

History has always been more than a subject to me — it's the reason I pursued a Master's degree in American History, culminating in writing a full-length book as my capstone project. That process taught me, on a deep level, what it actually takes to research, argue, and write well, and I love passing that on to students who are staring down their own essays and research papers feeling overwhelmed. I know that blank-page feeling firsthand, and I know how to work through it.

About the lesson

My approach centers on teaching the actual thinking behind good historical writing, not just formatting rules. I focus on how to build an argument from evidence, how to evaluate and use sources critically, and how to structure a paper so the argument is clear and convincing from start to finish.

A typical lesson starts with looking at whatever the student is currently working on — an essay prompt, a DBQ, a research topic — and breaking down what a strong response actually requires. We'll work through outlining, thesis-building, and using evidence effectively, then review and revise actual writing together.

What sets me apart is a graduate-level foundation in historiography and research methodology, including writing a full-length book as my own capstone project, combined with real classroom and tutoring experience translating that training into skills a student can actually use.

These lessons are for high school students working on AP U.S. History, essay writing, or research papers, as well as anyone who wants to build stronger historical writing and research skills from the ground up.
