About Siena
My name is Siena and I am a senior electrical and computer engineering student at the University of Rochester. I LOVE teaching: figuring out my students' learning styles and discovering the best teaching method for each individual student. I prioritize real understanding above finishing a worksheet, and push students to use critical thinking to figure out answers on their own.
Teaching Credentials:
- 6 years of tutoring experience from independent lessons and at Mathnasium, for elementary through high school students.
- 8 years of childcare experience with ages 3-13 years.
- Completed training on teaching students at different levels and learning styles.
- Can provide recommendations.
Subject Matter Credentials:
- 5s on AP BC Calculus, AP Physics 1, AP Physics C.
- As in university As in Calc 3, Linear Algebra, Probability/Discrete math, Physics E&M, Modern Physics.
I can teach at the University of Rochester library or online.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Building and Supporting the Foundations
Lessons for younger students are teacher-led. I use classwork as a jumping off point to assess which topics are more challenging for the student, and then dive into practice problems that build understanding up until the level of the classwork. If there is a gap in understanding, I to add extra support for that topic until the student is confident. I incorporate puzzles and games to make the lesson more engaging for younger students, and take brain breaks when needed. Every lesson ends with a 5 minute game. Elementary School lessons are 30 minutes or 1 hour long, accommodating for the family's schedule and student's needs.
MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL: Curriculum Support and Growth
Lessons for middle and high school students are more student-led. Once reaching Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and AP math classes, students are often more aware of which subjects and homework assignments are most challenging for them. I use the Socratic Questioning method to expand on topics where the student has a basic level of understanding, and teach mini-lectures on newer topics. Lessons mainly focus on classwork and homework provided by the teacher, but also include additional practice problems to add support and cement understanding. Middle and High School lessons are 1-2 hours long, accommodating for the student's schedule and needs.

Siena is enthusiastic and intelligent. We are extremely grateful for the time that she put in with our son, a high school junior, this past year. She worked to help him understand his Physics homework and topics. She used his classroom materials and also found outside resources for him. Siena was very reliable and professional. She communicated clearly with us about expectations and scheduling. She set up meeting schedules and was always on time. She was also very flexible and accommodating with our time, travel and calendars. She did both in-person and online tutoring. She really saved his grades in the class… he gradually improved during his time with her. Sienna was a pleasure to work with and we feel very lucky we found her! Hoping that we can continue next year. 10/10!
