About Deep
More than knowledge, an aspiring computer science engineer must possess the right attitude and a good aptitude towards the subject.
What does one mean by aptitude? It means, how good are you at writing programs, how good are you at understanding the concepts behind various technologies, and how good are you at applying what you have learnt. Are you constantly motivated to learn on your own, or do you learn only when somebody tells you or forces you to learn something? In this industry, what you learn in college and what you apply while working may be drastically different.
What does one mean by attitude? It means, when given a simple problem how to you approach it? Do you try to do something on your own and then ask for help? Or do you ask for help first and then do something on your own? Or do you constantly ask help and do what others tell you to do?
Today companies have just about enough time to train you at a beginner’s level and expect you to spend time learning on your own. You are encouraged to ask questions, but are not expected to be helped at every issue. Management is quick to identify good candidates using this technique, and are often willing to take someone who shows good attitude towards solving a problem, than someone who has high scores at college but needs constant supervision.
