About Ben Bullett Mortlock

Hi, I’m Ben. I’m a qualified English language educator and specialist IELTS & CELPIP coach with more than 10 years of teaching experience and over 2,000 lessons delivered to students from around the world.

My professional training includes CELPIP Instructor Training Levels 1 & 2, IDP IELTS Teacher Training in IELTS Speaking & Assessment Criteria, and a 120-hour TEFL qualification. I have also personally achieved IELTS Band 9 and CELPIP scores of 10–12, giving me an understanding of these examinations both as a trained educator and as a successful test taker.

I specialize in supporting candidates preparing for IELTS and CELPIP, particularly those working towards language scores for Canadian immigration, permanent residence, higher education and professional opportunities.

Throughout my career, I have worked with hundreds of international clients at very different starting levels. I’ve supported learners progressing from approximately IELTS Band 4 to 6.5, as well as candidates working towards Band 7+ for demanding academic and professional goals.

My approach is highly targeted. I don’t believe in simply giving students endless practice tests and telling them to “practice more.” Instead, I help you understand why you are receiving your current score, where marks are being lost, and what specifically needs to change to move towards your target.

Having taught internationally and worked with learners from a wide range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds, I understand how much can depend on these results. My lessons are supportive and encouraging, but also structured, detailed and focused on measurable improvement.

About the lesson

IELTS & CELPIP coaching should be targeted, measurable and built around the score you actually need — not generic English lessons.

My lessons are designed for candidates preparing for IELTS or CELPIP for Canadian immigration, permanent residence, work, study and professional opportunities.

I begin by identifying your current level, target score and the specific areas preventing you from progressing. From there, we create a personalised preparation strategy rather than simply working through practice tests.

Depending on your needs, lessons can include IELTS/CELPIP Speaking simulations, detailed examiner-style feedback, Writing correction and analysis, Reading and Listening strategies, vocabulary development, timing techniques and targeted practice based on your weaker areas.

I place particular emphasis on helping you understand why you are receiving your current score and exactly what needs to change to reach the next level.

I have conducted 2,000+ teaching sessions and supported hundreds of international clients, including candidates preparing for immigration and higher education. I have personally achieved IELTS Band 9 and CELPIP scores of 10–12, giving me first-hand experience of performing at a high level in both examinations.

My hourly rate covers a private 60-minute IELTS or CELPIP coaching session, personalised to your current level, target score and examination timeline.

Where appropriate, lessons include targeted practice materials, Speaking simulations, examiner-criteria-based feedback, Writing analysis, Reading and Listening strategies, and a clear action plan for what to work on between sessions.

I also prepare for your lesson in advance, so your session is focused on the areas most likely to improve your performance rather than following a generic textbook programme.

Learning materials used during our lessons are included at no additional cost.

For students preparing over several weeks, I can also help structure a longer-term study plan around your test date and target score.

My aim is to ensure that every session gives you clear, practical feedback and measurable next steps—not simply another hour of English practice.
