About Shilpa
I initially studied yoga as a teen with a teacher in India while visiting relatives. Practicing eased my anxiety and set me on a path to deepening my physical, mental, and spiritual awareness. I expanded my studies as a young adult and became a credentialed teacher in 2004. In following decades, I have taught yoga in schools and community settings, in studios, outdoors, and online. I have worked with all ages, from preschoolers to elders, from seasoned practitioners to students who have never taken a yoga class.
I also have an MFA and can fold creative practices into coaching sessions or personalize yogic practices that aid your creative process.

What are you seeking through a yoga practice?
My students' answers vary. Some want healing, personal transformation, a solid inner foundation, or deeper awareness. Some hope to relieve stress, wish to develop a centering practice, seek refuge from the world's chaos.
Whatever the reason for your search, I will work with you online to individualize a practice that meets your needs and that you may continue independently.
I have taught yoga to all ages of adults and youth for over two decades. I mentor a range of students, from absolute beginners to advanced practitioners, and I can take either a secular or spiritual approach as desired. I have worked with students who are diverse in all ways, and I strive to create an inclusive, nonjudgmental space.
A typical session may combine:
Asana (postures)
Pranayam (breathwork)
Dhyan (meditation)
Swadhyaya (self study--space for integration and reflection)
Optional additional elements such as creative writing or journaling
I am currently mentoring students online and am also open to in-person sessions in certain Bay Area locations.
