About Mary

With 5 years of experience in teaching and performing the violin, I am deeply committed to helping students discover their potential through music. I teach school and college students at all levels, from beginners learning foundational skills to advanced learners preparing for recitals, exams, and competitions.

One of the highlights of my career has been helping students overcome technical challenges, build confidence, and perform with skill and expression. My teaching focuses on strong technical foundations including posture, bow technique, finger placement, rhythm, tone, and intonation, while also emphasising musical expression, creativity, and emotional connection to the music.

I incorporate music theory, sight-reading, and listening exercises to develop a complete understanding of music. I tailor lessons to each student’s learning style, pace, and goals, creating a supportive and inspiring environment where students feel encouraged to explore, practice, and grow. Teaching violin allows me to nurture confidence, discipline, creativity, and a lifelong passion for music and learning.

About the lesson

I teach violin with a methodology based on motivation, communication, creativity, and integrity, designed to nurture technically proficient, expressive, and confident musicians. Lessons are customised to suit the student’s abilities, goals, and musical interests, ensuring a balance of skill-building and creative exploration.

Motivation is at the heart of my teaching. I encourage students to set goals, track progress, and celebrate accomplishments, fostering engagement, pride, and persistence. Communication creates a supportive, interactive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, discussing challenges, and sharing ideas.

Creativity is central to my lessons. I incorporate improvisation, interpretation, and composition exercises, helping students develop a personal musical style and emotional connection to music. Integrity emphasises disciplined practice, responsibility, and respect for learning, establishing habits that support long-term growth.

In addition to violin, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, rhythm, and introductory piano, providing a well-rounded musical education. My methodology develops technical skill, expressive capability, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.
