My chess classes follow progression from fundamentals to structured thinking, so students do not play moves randomly but understand why each move is played.

Absolute beginners are welcome too, you do not need theory to start, that is what the first few hundred blunders are for.

For complete beginners, I start with the basics of the game:
the value of pieces, basic checkmates (queen mate, double rook mate, rook mate) and essential principles such as piece development, king safety and controlling the center. Students learn practical ideas like why bishops are stronger in open positions and knights perform better in closed positions, instead of memorizing rules blindly.

A student’s own games are usually the clearest evidence of what actually needs work. I selectively use MultiPV Stockfish analysis, depth controlled engine evaluations, WDL estimates, Opening Explorer, reference database searches, Monte Carlo analysis, Syzygy endgame tablebases, move order statistics and theoretical novelty checks to distinguish isolated tactical errors from recurring weaknesses in calculation, evaluation and positional judgement. Where relevant, I also examine principal variations, transpositions, pawn-structure patterns, typical piece manoeuvres, practical winning chances and rating-specific opening trends rather than treating a single centipawn evaluation as the final word. These patterns help determine what deserves priority in subsequent sessions.

By the time we are using all that analysis, the goal is simple: your blunders should at least have the courtesy to be new ones.
