About Martina

Ciao, I’m Martina! I’m a language tutor with over five years of experience in education and language teaching, supporting international learners online.

I hold a First Class Honours BA in Linguistics and Spanish from Birkbeck, University of London, an MA in Translation & Interpreting, and a 150-hour TEFL qualification. I work in Italian, English and Spanish.

My background brings together language teaching, translation, interpreting and cultural awareness. I enjoy helping adults develop the confidence to use Italian beyond the lesson—in everyday conversations, during time in Italy and when connecting with their heritage.

I am currently developing a specialist focus on CILS and Italian citizenship language preparation. Above all, I believe learning should feel personal, practical and encouraging.

Tell me what brings you to Italian, and we can build your lessons around it.

About the lesson

Learn Italian for the conversations, experiences and goals that matter to you.

I offer personalised online lessons for English-speaking adults who want to build speaking confidence, reconnect with their Italian heritage, prepare for a language exam or feel more at home in Italy.

Depending on your goals, we can focus on:
• Conversation and confidence, especially if you understand Italian but feel hesitant speaking
• Practical Italian for travel, relocation, retirement and everyday life
• B1 language preparation for your Italian citizenship journey
• CILS preparation, including speaking, listening, reading and writing
• Grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and cultural understanding

Lessons combine guided conversation, clear explanations, practical activities and personalised feedback. We will work at a pace that suits you, with space to revisit difficult topics and recognise your progress.

I particularly welcome adult and older learners who may feel nervous about learning a language later in life. You can expect a patient, respectful environment where questions and mistakes are part of learning.

Martina has been an excellent teacher, she instantly adapted lessons to the my level and has helped improved my confidence no end. She tailored lessons around my learning style to make learning time truly valuable to me. The hour lessons fly by as she's such a lovely, smiley character too, she's a joy to be taught by!

It was not just unexpected to meet Martina on a random day, but I was also surprised to meet such a charismatic person who, after telling me that she worked with teaching Italian, was open to offer me a “free trial” class.
Ever since my learning experience, guided by her knowledge, has been such a delight!
Martina tailored my leaning curve and classes based on my experience with the language, my goals and my preferences on ways of studying and leaning.
This is now our third month of classes, meeting weekly online, and I can feel a great improvement on both my learning (vocabulary, grammar) but also my confidence into speaking it out loud, learning with my mistakes and having her correcting and assisting me on every step.

I would highly recommend her as your online Italian tutor, great knowledge, clear communication, interactive teaching skills and also a very organised professional, who will help you to learn -or improve- your Italian!

Martina is a native Italian speaker from Verona and very fluent in English. She is currently studying for a masters in translation/interpretation at the University of Leeds. Martina is a fantastic enthusiastic teacher, prepares lessons well in advance and selects an interesting variety of teaching techniques exercises as well as helping to translate into Italian activities I have undertaken since the last lesson to make conversation real and useful. I would strongly recommend learning with Martina
