About Jacob
Hello,
I am a professional Teacher and musician but have been studying all kinds of visual arts including Knitting, crochet tatting and weaving for about 17 years now. If you ride the 2/4/5 trains you may have even seen me knitting sketching or tatting to kill my commute!
I am an easygoing and patient teacher who has taught many students at all ages and levels ranging from 4th grade to seniors both in high school and life. Lessons can be structured as a formal one on one or group class format, covering single topics or techniques such as "getting started with garter and stockinette stitches, casting on and off and gauging" or as an informal "as you need it" knitting circle where multiple people work at their own pace on their individual projects and I circle around to check on you individually and coach in the moment.
I offer in home (or at the cafe, bar, bookstore or park of your choice) or virtual lessons for 30 min or 60 min blocks either in a (student organized group) at a discounted rate per person (free for the host provided the group is 3 or more) or one on one.

Hello!
Have you always wanted to make your own clothes? Sweaters? Hats? Scarves, mittens, blankets? Etc...Maybe you're a textile artist looking to establish a new skill! You've come to the right place! I am available to teach .5hr-1hr private or group lessons to adults or children who wish to pick up the wonderful skill of knitting!
Topics can range from:
Beginning continental or English knitting techniques, getting started with the basic Knit, Purl and casting on and off. Determining gauge and prepping a swatch.
Reading a pattern and basic seed stitch, ribbing, garter stitch and other flat knit and purl based stitches.
Lace stitches and techniques, cabling, bobbles and other raised relief work, knitting in the round both with double pointed or circular needles, colorwork, garment making and sizing, techniques for the bind off and cast on. Embellishment blocking and darning. You set the pace and topics based on your individual goals and projects. Group lessons need not be formal and set on one topic. I am happy to work in a knitting circle with several people all working on their own projects and at their own pace! Materials and equipment must be self provided.
