About George

Hi, I'm George, the founder of Subflow Studio.

My background combines formal musical training with years of real-world DJ experience. I studied music theory to Grade 5, alongside piano (Grade 7), violin (Grade 5) and voice (Grade 4) before discovering DJing at 17.

Since then I've performed as one half of the electronic music duo Disaffected, playing clubs and festivals across the UK, Europe, Asia and New Zealand. My passion has always been underground electronic music and developing a deep understanding of what makes great DJing - not just technically, but musically too.

As a teacher, my goal is simple: to help you become an independent, confident DJ.

My lessons are patient, relaxed and completely tailored to your experience level. I don't believe in gatekeeping or teaching students to simply copy what I do. Instead, I focus on helping you understand why techniques work, so you can confidently apply them in your own sets.

Whether you're buying your first controller, preparing for your first club set, or trying to overcome bad habits picked up from YouTube, I'll help you build a solid foundation with structured lessons, personalised practice advice and ongoing support between sessions.

There's no pressure, no judgement and no question that's too basic. Everyone starts somewhere, and my aim is to make learning DJing enjoyable while giving you skills that will stay with you long after the lessons have finished.

About the lesson

Whether you're stepping behind the decks for the very first time or looking to refine your existing skills, my lessons are tailored entirely to your goals. I teach complete beginners, intermediate DJs and more experienced performers through structured one-to-one tuition.

Lessons can cover everything from advanced transitions and delivering great sets through to the theory (music and otherwise) behind DJing, and how to build & maintain a great music library. Rather than simply showing you which buttons to press, I focus on helping you understand why techniques work, giving you the confidence to DJ independently long after the lessons have finished. Lessons are available both online and in person (Bournemouth, UK).

Every lesson is personalised - whether your goal is mixing for fun at home, playing your first party, preparing for club gigs, or developing your own unique style. After every lesson you'll receive personalised summaries, feedback, practice exercises and optional homework to help you keep improving between sessions. My aim isn't just to help you complete a lesson - it's to give you the knowledge and confidence to become a genuinely amazing DJ.

Online lessons are delivered exclusively via Google Meet.
To achieve the best possible learning experience, the ideal setup is for students to:
- Share your controller software (e.g. Rekordbox) screen throughout the lesson, if using a controller.
- Route the master output from your DJ gear directly into the Google Meet call, allowing me to hear your mix clearly.
- Use a separate microphone so we can communicate whilst I listen to your DJ audio.
- Use a webcam, where possible, positioned so I can see your controller and its operation when relevant.

I appreciate that every student's equipment and technical knowledge is different. Students are therefore welcome to attend online lessons using whatever setup they have available, however, the further your setup differs from the ideal described above, the more limited my ability may be to assess your performance and provide detailed technical feedback.
