About Kevin
My career bridges both academia and professional practice. As an instructor, I’ve guided students from different musical backgrounds — from complete beginners to developing composers — and I bring the same collaborative, supportive approach to private lessons. My goal is to help students find their unique voice, master the tools of the craft, and gain a deeper understanding of how music transforms film. As the 2024 ASCAP Foundation Jimmy Van Heusen awardee, I have worked extensively as a film composer, composing scores for a wide variety of genres. Recently Kyvon Edwins, The Things We Carry (Chelsea Film Festival Sponsored), Chad B. Hamilton’s Way Back Home (ASCAP sponsored), CINEMA RECOMPOSED with Golden Hornet in collaboration with Max Fleischer studios, to working on the music teams for National Geographic’s For Winter. My work requires me to not only have an extensive knowledge of the ins and outs of DAWs (Logic Pro X, Cubase, Pro Tools), Orchestration and Film but also knowing how to network and collaborate with directors, producers and clients to bring music to their project and elevate their story. Looking forward to working with you!

My lessons blend composition, technology, and film analysis. My method is both practical and creative: students learn harmony, melody, orchestration, and DAW skills while also analyzing how music functions in film — from rhythm and timing to texture, emotion, and storytelling.
A typical lesson includes listening and breaking down a film scene or soundtrack, focused instruction on a scoring concept, hands-on composition for a video clip, and constructive feedback. By combining film analysis with scoring practice, students not only learn how to write music but also why music works in context.
What sets me apart is my university-level teaching experience and my collaborative, approachable style. I encourage creativity, critique, and exploration so that students develop both strong technical skills and an artistic voice.

Great teacher for breaking down complex topics into easy-to-follow parts!
Kevin is a great educator, and his experience truly shows in his teaching. As one of his previous students, it was very comforting to learn from someone so knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. He also had great feedback when it came to project submissions and class assignments. Definitely one of my favorite classes from that year, thanks Kevin!!
