About Mathilde

Bonjour and welcome!

I'm Mathilde, a native French teacher from France, now happily calling Sydney home. For the past 8+ years, I've been helping children, teenagers and adults discover that learning French doesn't have to be intimidating—it can actually be one of the best parts of your week!

My teaching philosophy is simple: when you enjoy learning, you learn faster. That's why I don't believe in one-size-fits-all lessons. Every student is different, so every lesson is too. Whether you're preparing for the HSC or IB, planning your dream trip to Paris, raising bilingual children, or finally ticking "learn French" off your bucket list, I'll design lessons that suit your goals, your interests and your pace.

Over the years, I've taught hundreds of students, from five-year-olds saying their very first Bonjour to adults confidently holding conversations in French. Alongside my private tutoring business, I also work in Australian schools supporting students with a wide range of learning needs. I'm a qualified DAEFLE French teacher, allowing me to combine proven teaching methods with creative, engaging lessons.

My classes are relaxed, interactive and full of encouragement. We'll speak, laugh, play, explore French culture and celebrate every little success along the way. My goal isn't just to teach you French—it's to help you feel confident using it in real life.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology

I believe that the best way to learn a language is to enjoy using it. That's why every lesson is personalized to your goals, interests and learning style. Whether you're learning French for school, travel, work or simply for fun, I'll create lessons that keep you motivated and help you progress with confidence.

My lessons combine conversation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and listening in a natural and engaging way. I use games, interactive activities, authentic French resources and real-life situations to make learning practical and enjoyable. Rather than memorizing endless rules, you'll learn how to communicate in French from day one.

For children, I create fun and dynamic lessons using stories, games and creative activities to build confidence while keeping them engaged. For teenagers preparing for exams such as the HSC or IB, lessons are structured around the curriculum while developing speaking, writing and exam techniques. Adult learners enjoy practical lessons focused on conversation, travel, business or personal goals.
Typical length of a lesson

Most lessons are 60 minutes, which I find is the ideal length to make meaningful progress while keeping students focused and engaged.

For younger children, I also offer 30 or 45-minute lessons, depending on their age and concentration. Longer sessions can be arranged for intensive study, exam preparation or holiday revision.

My qualifications & experience

I'm a native French speaker with over 8 years of teaching experience in Sydney.

Alongside my private tutoring business, I currently work in schools supporting students of different ages and abilities. I hold the DAEFLE (Diplôme d'Aptitude à l'Enseignement du Français Langue Étrangère).

Over the years, I've taught hundreds of students, from complete beginners to advanced learners, and have extensive experience preparing students for the NSW HSC and the International Baccalaureate. I also support bilingual children, adult learners, travelers and professionals wanting to improve their French.

The hourly rate includes much more than the lesson itself. Every session is carefully prepared and tailored to your individual goals, level and learning style. I also provide personalized resources, lesson planning, and ongoing support to help you make steady progress between lessons. The travel fee covers the time spent traveling to and from your location, as well as transport costs. Traveling to students allows me to offer the convenience of learning in a familiar environment, saving you time and making lessons easier to fit into your schedule. If you prefer, I also offer online lessons, which provide the same personalized learning experience without any travel fee.
