About Tim

I've been studying piano, as a student like you, for over 30 years! I know what it's like to go through challenges at every stage of learning music!

I was always a pianist at heart, from the first memories I had as a kid. The piano is my greatest passion. Creating music is what I most love to do. I am turning around and injecting as much of my knowledge into students as I can!

I have studied piano at some of the most well respected colleges and universities in the world. From the University of North Texas as a Bachelor of Music to the Manhattan School of Music where I earned my Masters - both in my passion field, Jazz Piano Performance.

With a robust playing history in 3 areas of the country - San Francisco, Dallas / Fort Worth and New York City, I've taken my craft into so many different places, testing what I know on all sorts of audiences, and bearing the stamp of approval from educators such as Dan Hearle, Taylor Eigsti, Phil Markowitz, Dave Liebman, Christian McBride, and so many more.

Landing in the New York City area, I continue to engage in performance and teaching at the highest level possible, expanding my performance and composing music, so that I can share more things with students.

From the Barry Harris school to the Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock schools of playing, I can get you playing the music that you dream of playing. And I've done just that with past students.

About the lesson

Break Through Barriers and Discover Your Inner Genius

In my musical journey, I’ve been involved in many different types of performance situations. While playing cover band music and jazz standards can be a musically enjoyable experience, there is always something missing in the act of playing music that someone else wrote.

For creative musicians who have a desire to experience music fully, there’s a need to become innovative in the way we see music. And by innovative I don’t mean invent a smart phone. I mean, get into the core of what music is, and learn how to make everything we play our own. When we experience our favorite music, for instance, something in us binds to it, and sees it in our own likeness.

If you’re a serious musician that wants to write their own story in their music, then as a teacher I want to work with you to help with creating the best music possible.I teach students on any instrument, at levels ranging from intermediate to advanced and professional. My toolkit encompasses the creation of music from covering the basics of playing to recording critically acclaimed, expressive and artistic music. While my genre is commonly referred to as “Jazz”, its true nature is being an improvised art music.

With students I teach things that range from the minute details of performance - technique, hand independence, and tune learning - to becoming a more intuitive and expressive musician, and using the inspirations around your and inside of you to make the music you want to make, from every moment to the creation of full length studio albums.
