About Giordy EN

Hi! I’m Giordana! I teach Italian with passion—the way it’s really spoken and lived, not just textbook grammar. What words or expressions do people use in everyday life? At the bar? At the post office? When dealing with tricky bureaucracy? Why do I hear certain sounds in Genoa, but totally different ones in Naples or Bologna—often with a different “flavor,” too? What does “boh?” even mean? And what’s the story behind all those quirky Italian hand gestures? So, Giordana, does that mean you don’t teach proper grammar? Actually… I’ve always been kind of a “total nerd at school” loving Italian grammar so much! Born in the North (near Portofino, Genoa) to Southern parents (from Campania and Puglia), I graduated top of my class from a language-focused high school (English – Cambridge Advanced, French, German). I earned my degree in Economics with honors in 2000 (110/110 cum laude), and I’m now completing a second degree in Sustainable Economics, taught in English at the University of Bologna. So yes—I know grammar very well and can explain it clearly. But I won’t test you on obscure verb tenses you’ll never use, if what you really need is to speak and understand Italian in real life.

About the lesson

I always start with your personal goals and listen to your specific challenges, then offer targeted solutions and practical “workouts” to overcome them. Is it about grammar or pronunciation? Do you want to speak in a restaurant, a store, take university exams, or navigate public offices and fill out bureaucratic documents? I tailor the lesson specifically for you (based on your level and goals) and/or for small, focused groups with similar needs. My “real gift” that many students have recognized over the years is that I intuitively sense your difficulties and know how to help you overcome them using a clever “trick,” having fun with a song, or answering your cultural curiosities, all rooted in Italian language and life. As you may have noticed, I’m familiar with both Northern and Southern Italy, speak 3 foreign languages, and have lived and worked in various locations in Italy, (Milan, Genoa, Bologna, Rimini) and abroad, Erasmus in Dublin, worked in Dubai and Frankfurt am Main. A typical lesson? We co-create it at our first FREE one evaluating your available time, objective and budget—so that we can plan the rest together. I’ve taught international university students in Italy, and curious tourists starting from scratch, eager to really understand Italian language and culture. I listen to your needs and preferred learning styles: some rely more on visual memory, others on hearing; some want to master grammar thoroughly, while others aim to communicate simply and effectively in day-to-day life.
