About Shirley

Hello, I'm Shirley, a native Chinese speaker who has been living in New Zealand for over 27 years. As a trained and experienced Math teacher, I understand the importance of creating a supportive learning environment where students feel confident, motivated, and comfortable asking questions.

In addition to my passion for teaching, I have a strong interest in sharing the Chinese language and culture with others. I believe that learning a language is more than just learning vocabulary and grammar. It is also about understanding the people, traditions, and culture behind the language. My goal is to help students gain practical Chinese communication skills while developing a deeper appreciation and understanding of China and its rich cultural heritage.

I enjoy working with learners of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to those looking to improve their conversational fluency. My lessons are tailored to each student's needs, interests, and learning goals, making the learning experience both engaging and enjoyable.

As someone who has lived between two cultures for many years, I understand the challenges and rewards of language learning. I am patient, encouraging, and committed to helping every student build confidence and make steady progress at their own pace.
