About Meghan
I am a private voice and music theory teacher. I have both a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, and have been teaching private voice lessons for nearly 3 years now. I have studied the methods of several influential voice specialists, including the Berton Coffin, David Wilson, Richard Miller, Alexander Technique and Estill methods. My own private voice study was done under the direction of Elizabeth Turnbull and Shannon Hiebert at the University of Alberta. I have sung in the prestigious University of Alberta Madrigal Singers Choir under the direction of Leonard Ratzlaff, and performed for two years with the University of Alberta Opera Workshop class. Since beginning my classical music training over 16 years ago, I have found such a sense of joy and fulfillment in my own life. Now that I have completed my postsecondary training in music education, I want to share that joy of music with you.

I approach the subject of voice instruction with understanding and flexibility. No two singers are the same, therefore their voice lessons should be as unique as they are. It is important that I get to know my students before I begin teaching them, which is why I offer a complimentary 30 min lesson to every new student. While the basic structure of each lesson is the same (warm-up, technical development, and performance of repertoire), I aim to understand each student's individual vocal goals so that they may get the most out of each lesson.
I am trained in classical voice, musical theatre and contemporary/pop singing, which allows me to teach students of all ages and musical interests. My personal philosophy is that every person can learn how to sing with the right instruction, and I believe that my extensive background in multiple voice training methods allows me to be able to diagnose and address any kind of vocal challenge or goal.
In addition to vocal instruction, I also teach music theory lessons. These lessons follow the RCM Music Theory curriculum, which means that I am able and willing to prepare students for the RCM Theory Examinations that accompany their private instrumental exams. I also teach theory to those who are not interested in the examination route, and choose to instead study theory for enjoyment and further musical development.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
She is my son's teacher. At first I am really afraid he will feel boring for theory only. But after his first and second lesson, he told me, he love theory lesson, it's so fun. I know it's not easy to make boring lesson fun, but it is so important. Thank you so much Meghan!
Meghan provided voice lessons to my daughter, she is a wonderful, patient, energetic and talented voice teacher. My daughter learned so much from Meghan and that was reflected when my daughter participated in a music festival and her assessment was great. Thank you Meghan for helping Sofia develop her voice while under your coaching!

The $40/hr fee pays for the lesson itself and all required sheet music and books. All extra materials will be provided to the student at the commencement of the lesson period.
Webcam lessons are available to anyone, at any age, anywhere in the world. Webcam students will be required to purchase their own sheet music when necessary, however I will always assist the student in finding the best price (usually $3-$5 per song) and quality of arrangement.
