About Sophie
I am a student in the UK who has just left college, I am French and English so I am fluent in both. Thanks to the wonderful teachers that I have had and my personal research and trips to Spain I have a deep cultural knowledge of Spain, I am hoping to move to go to Argentina in my university years on a year abroad to immerse myself even more into the Hispanic culture. My mother is an MFL teacher and despite myself not having a PGCE I strive to make sure that each of my lessons are effective so I have her to guide me. My passion for languages rooted at a very early age as I have always grown up with languages, and in doing the GCSE and A Level in Spanish my grammatical knowledge is at a very high standard as well. Spanish is not the only language I speak though, I also speak French, a beginner level of Ukrainian and Hungarian and have just begun learning Swedish. My first experience with teaching languages came to me through my college, I was given the opportunity to meet and help teach Ukrainian refugees English. This experience was very complex as they did not speak English very well and my knowledge of Ukrainian at the time was quite limit however through navigating that experience I developed the skill of being able to convey concepts very well and very quickly. In my second year of college I volunteered at a local secondary school MFL department for about 10 weeks to help the teacher prepare the students for their oral exams, in doing this I learnt how to quickly and effectively boost grades of students with tips and tricks on how to improve answers. This was not my first time teaching though, I have also completed two weeks of work experience in a primary school and that was a fascinating and reward experience too.

One to one lesson focusing on GCSE and A level exam preparation and helping conversational practice, tenses and reading and writing skills. Approximately an hour but can be shorter or longer. I have done 10 weeks in secondary schools tutoring Year 11 students so I am well aware of methods and ways to aid students in GCE exam preparation. As well as this I have completed a year of helping teach Ukrainian refugees English last year. Generally a lesson will begin with a brief introduction of what the lesson will entail, after this conversation practice based on the topic and level we are studying that session. For example for a GCSE student if we were discussing family that session the questions would include questions from the general conversation practice e.g. "¿Te llevas bien con tu familia?¿Porque?". After this we would do more practice on vocabulary and sentence structures identifying any errors. As well as this type of practice I would get you to fill out google forms questionnaires involving subject specific content so I can track your progress and identify any issues I would need to address. The lesson would include engaging translation games and would be tailored to your needs and personal preferences with learning. If you are a visual learner I would ensure there were many visual aspects to the lesson for example images and videos. If you are an auditory learner I would also tailor the lesson to accommodate for this.
