Find your basketball trainer in Victoria

The fundamentals of basketball come down to seven essential skills.

• Dribbling and ball handling: controlling the ball while moving without looking down at it.
• Passing: moving the ball quickly and safely between players.
• Shooting technique: aligning the elbow, wrist and follow-through for a consistent shot.
• Footwork, pivoting and defence: positioning the body to move, protect the ball and stop opponents.

A private tutor breaks down each skill step by step and speeds up your progress.

A private basketball lesson in Victoria costs approximately $85/h.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• The level of play (recreational, competitive, elite)
• The coach's expertise and playing background
• The duration and frequency of lessons
• Where the sessions take place

Group sessions are often more affordable while remaining effective.

Rule 1 comes from the very first basketball rulebook, written in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith.

• Rule 1 states that a player may pass the ball in any direction using one or both hands.
• Since dribbling had not been invented, players relied entirely on passing to advance the ball.
• It encouraged teamwork over individual play, as players could not carry the ball themselves.
• Modern rules like travelling and dribbling grew directly out of this original idea.

A tutor can explain how these original rules shaped the modern game, not just how to play it.
