About Tristan

I have been teaching ESL for the past 15 years to students from diverse countries including Vietnam, Korea, Japan and China. For ten of those years I taught ESL privately at students’ homes.

Since 2015, I have been working as an educational assistant for the local public school board, where I support students with behavioral, neurological and developmental disabilities. I also get the opportunity to teach ESL to several students who are new to Canada.

Prior to being an educational assistant, I taught English in Vietnam for 10 years. I taught children from ages 4 to 16. In many cases, I tutored students at their homes.

About the lesson

My philosophy in teaching is very simple: Learn and have fun doing it! Many of my activities include singing, playing games, coloring, and using interactive PC games. I like to use lots of visual aids like flashcards and short videos. If it's fun and engaging I do it. If it's not fun and engaging, I don't do it.

Not every student is the same. I will recognize what works and what doesn't work with each student and alter my lesson plans accordingly.

Tristan is an incredibly knowledgeable, and experienced teacher. He is great with children, and patient when helping them understand new material. My son, Ben looks forward to his lessons because Tristan has a talent for making learning fun. He builds strong relationships with his students. Ben respects and admires Tristan. This has inspired Ben to devote himself to his studies. Ben's grades have greatly improved since he has began his tutorship with Tristan. I highly recommend him.

I first met Tristan 20 years ago when we were both aspiring English teachers and was immediately impressed by his enthusiasm for the subject. Since then, I have had the pleasure of observing several of his classes in Vietnam
and can attest to his professionalism, proficiency, and pragmatism in the classroom.
Tristan is noted for the ability to relate to the specific needs of different age groups and ability levels, the thoroughness of his lesson preparation and his follow-up work with individual students to ensure understanding and address areas of weakness.
In short, Tristan is a motivational teacher who inspires his students to achieve their full potential. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him as an English tutor.
