About Paula

In view of cultural experiences, I did a BA in Liberal Arts and an MA in Sociology at the University of Essex, UK, having the opportunity to study alongside and also work for students coming from so many different social and cultural backgrounds and other colleagues across the wider University community. I would like to enter the field of education and consider that being an English Teacher would help me build on the experience that I already with working with children and teaching English.
During Jul 2019 – Sep 2019 I taught English as a foreign language to students of different ages within Educational Project “Biblio-Vacanța”, a local community project designed by County Library of Botoșani, Romania, aimed at providing children and young people with summer courses designed to develop their knowledge and skills in a relaxed and friendly environment. I prepared a range of courses combining fun activities with real learning to suit different age groups. So far, I have plenty of experience working with young people that I could draw on if given the opportunity to be an English Teacher. I highly value the idea of relationship building and its derived mutual benefits, as I think that great things can be achieved through a fostered sense of belonging and encouraged involvement. Since my second year of studying a BA in Liberal Arts through to graduation, namely 2017/18 and 2018/19, I supported students in University of Essex accommodation as part of the responsibilities I was assigned as a member of the Residence Life Team (within Student Support). I developed valuable skills such as leadership skills and practiced effective interpersonal communication by performing the role of a Residents' Assistant. I contributed to building the Essex community through encouraging students to engage with departmental activities and other on campus activities and through programming – organizing and hosting a range of social activities, events tailored to fit their interests and follow four pillars (The Essex Spirit, A culture of membership, A global community and outlook, A research mindset and skills). Such events encouraged students’ integration and interaction and supported academic success.
Throughout my time at an English university, I immersed myself in learning more European languages and had come to master the rules of the English language. There are many layers of complexity to language learning, which has always fascinated me, and made me want to explore the English language in depth. Recently I have successfully completed the 120-hour TEFL course and decided to embark on a teaching journey. I am not a native speaker, but I am a native-level and fluent English speaker, having a neutral accent. I understand students’ situation as a former learner myself, and now that I’ve got the TEFL training I am confident that I am equipped with the ability and skill to embrace an English teaching opportunity.
