About Peyton

I am a high school math teacher with a strong background in Algebra and Geometry, and I am passionate about helping students build both confidence and competence in math. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame and currently teach in Washington, D.C.

In my classroom, I focus on breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and providing structured, guided support for all learners. I bring that same approach to tutoring—meeting students where they are, reinforcing foundational skills, and helping them develop strong problem-solving habits.

I have experience working with a wide range of learners and understand that every student approaches math differently. About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs. I believe that every student can succeed in math with the right guidance, and I focus on building both understanding and confidence.

In sessions, I use a guided, step-by-step teaching method similar to what I use in my classroom. I break down concepts into manageable parts, model problem-solving strategies, and then gradually release responsibility to the student through practice and discussion. I prioritize asking questions and checking for understanding so students are actively engaged, not just watching.

A typical lesson includes reviewing prior knowledge or homework, introducing or reinforcing a key concept, working through examples together, and then giving the student time to try problems independently with support. I also incorporate test-taking strategies and common mistake analysis to help students improve their accuracy and efficiency.

What sets me apart is my experience as a full-time high school teacher. I understand current curriculum standards, pacing, and common student challenges. I also specialize in creating clear, organized notes and explanations that make math feel more approachable.

My lessons are ideal for middle school and high school students, especially those taking Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra 2. I work with students who need extra support, as well as those aiming to strengthen their skills and improve their performance in class.
