About Ilia
I started learning classical piano at the age of six afterschool. Once my teacher noticed I had a passion for playing music, I was encouraged to push myself down the classical route along more rigorous practice and advanced learning. While I built up a large knowledge about performance and theory, I used to sneakily learn modern movements from film soundtracks I loved (the first time I did this I chose the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song!)
During music classes in school, I was more than prepared for the tests, recitals, and exams through my classical study, but I discovered new genres and aspects of music from other countries and time periods that I never had the opportunity to learn. Since then, I "time travelled" by learning to play pieces I liked that were more modern, songs that I related to more, and styles that I flourished more at! That is why in my classes I try to give you the controls over what we cover, how deep we go down the music rabbit hole, and tips on how to maximise the rewards from your performance style!

My approach to teaching piano or music revolves around the student! Your musical interests, goals, and aptitudes will dictate the work we cover, as well as whether you want to learn advanced theory and technique. Music should be all about the journey, learning about music as an artistic skill, and growing your knowledge and love for casual/professional playing/performance!
I hold a Licentiate in piano performance, top marks in LC music, and multiple awards/bursaries in piano. I began teaching part-time in 2017 in a school in Mayo and have since taught privately to clients in their own homes or online.
I have taught people from ages as low as 6 to adults in their mid-forties so if learning piano or improving what you have already built is something you are keen to do, I am the tutor for you!
