About Tatum
My teaching approach is flexible, creative, and student-centered. I tailor each lesson to match the student’s goals, musical interests, and learning style. Lessons focus on guitar technique, ear training, music theory, and performance coaching to build a strong, well-rounded foundation. I incorporate modern tools like DAWs, amp simulators, and metronome apps to make practice engaging and practical. Students learn to listen critically, play with confidence, and develop their own musical voice. I guide learners through improvisation, songwriting, and live performance while ensuring they understand the theory behind what they play. I particularly enjoy supporting students who are curious, bold, or experimental with music, helping them channel their energy into structured growth and creative expression. Lessons are a mix of structured practice and freedom to explore new ideas, depending on each student’s personality and goals. My goal is to help students gain skill, confidence, and joy in music. Every lesson empowers them to express themselves, discover their strengths, and reach new levels of musicianship.

I’m an experienced guitar tutor with over 5 years of teaching students of all levels, including those with learning differences such as ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music (Guitar) and have training in music therapy and special education principles, which I integrate into every lesson. My teaching is adaptive and strengths-based, focusing on each student’s unique abilities and interests.
I create a supportive environment where students feel safe to explore, make mistakes, and grow. Lessons combine technique, theory, ear training, and performance coaching, tailored to help learners achieve both short- and long-term goals. I use creative strategies to improve focus, memory, and self-expression, often incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning approaches.
I’ve helped beginners gain confidence in playing their first songs and guided advanced students in improvisation, composition, and live performance. Each lesson is structured yet flexible, allowing room for curiosity and musical exploration. My goal is to empower students to find their voice on the guitar and connect emotionally with music.
