About Derek
Hello! I have been tutoring Math for one semester now (since September 2020), and I really enjoy it! I am particularly well versed in the areas of algebra/equations, mathematical analysis, and functions. I provide math tutoring for any grade level in the normal Alberta curriculum.

I strive to ensure all students are empowered and feel confident with the topics in each unit of the math curriculum. I tailor all of my lessons directly to the needs of the student. A typical class with me will start with a few minutes of writing down each individual topic that the student went over in class the week prior. Based on the particular topics that the student feels need the most practice, we will work together to write down the key strategies that need to be applied to problems within the unit. Math is learned best when practice problems are completed, so the majority of the lesson time will be spent with examples provided by the student or by me (whichever is preferred). As the examples are completed, I will continually reference the key strategies to approach the particular type of problem in order to ensure the student is able to apply these during assessments. At the end of the lesson, I will provide a summary, and possibly suggest resources for the student to practice with. I look forward to working with you!
