About Remek

I am an aspiring Maths and Biology teacher with a huge passion for teaching others. My aim with our grinds together is to bring out your full potential and allow you to feel at ease heading into exams. It is my aim to get rid of any uncertainties and difficulties you might be having. I can assure you that even your least favorite topics in the course can prove to be much more doable with our lessons. I want to share the knowledge and tricks I have acquired throughout my time as a Leaving Cert student that allowed me to achieve 625 points. I have been a part of programs which involve working with young people that have developed my teaching expertise.

Now taking bookings for the 2025/2026 school year! The focus of my grinds lessons is on exam paper questions and technique. Oftentimes students know the material but are unaware of where marks are allocated. I heavily encourage my students to tell me about the areas of particular difficulty for them so that we can turn a disliked topic into one of their strengths. The lessons are typically one hour in duration with room for specific requests if needed. My expertise lies within the Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle curriculum of both Maths and Biology. I am very familiar with the format of the exams and the strategies required to optimize results. I myself have achieved 625 points in my own Leaving Certificate and have plenty of H1 standard notes and tips. I am currently a student at NUIM in the Science and Education course.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always been fascinated by Maths and subjects which incorporated it from a young age. There is nothing more rewarding than solving a very difficult Maths problem. Oftentimes in school, I would help out my friends when they were struggling and that inspired the idea of private grinds. From speaking with them I noticed a lack of younger tutors in the area, something which they mentioned would be greatly appreciated as they feel more comfortable around tutors their age.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

For Maths, the key is to have a broad understanding of where things are coming from. I get my students to not only do questions but also explain to me WHY we do it this way. I enjoy teaching Calculus above all as it is the topic that everyone dreads but upon deeper analysis isn't actually that scary. I dislike topics that have to be learned off by students like Constructions and Geometry as it is a matter of memorising rather than skill.

With Biology, the major focus is on seeing links between chapters and the relevance of each topic we discuss. My favourite is Genetics as it always has had a special place for me.

For Business, I once again focus on understanding rather than learning off. We focus on the significance of what we learn in relation to the world around us and where we actually see this in practice.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

From my Business teacher to my German teacher and everyone in between, I am very grateful that I was able to be surrounded by such inspiring people. The insights I have gained from them not only in the subjects but also their unique personal ways of teaching were priceless. I myself use a mix of some of their characteristics in my approach to create my own way of teaching. I cannot thank each of my teachers enough for the impacts they have all had on me.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

In my opinion a good tutor should be approachable, knowledgeable and reliable. A student should feel no shame in their ability. Honest and open communication should be at the core of every tutor as they are crucial in understanding the root of the problem. A vast knowledge of the course content is also essential for the tutor as they must know exactly what is required from students.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I will never forget my Leaving Cert Maths mock exam. I remember waiting weeks for the papers to come back and when they finally did...massive disappointment. Out of all the subjects, Maths was like a prize I just HAD to get a H1 in. I wanted that above all. So you can imagine my face when I received a 52% grade on the paper. I was annoyed for a few days but after that period I gathered myself up and pushed myself further to achieve the grade I wanted by practicing exam paper after exam paper. When the results rolled around and I saw 93% on the portal I could not be more happier in that moment. Hard work does indeed pay off especially in Maths and let this be my testimony towards that fact.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

In Maths, I had a terrible habit of launching into questions without reading through them fully. That is why I focus on that with my students so they don't make the same mistakes.

For Biology and Business, I struggled with understanding what questions required of me and how to structure my answers. Good planning which I unfortunately developed near the end of my Leaving Cert journey are massive game changers for these topics and I share them with my students now.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My biggest passion is teaching and is the reason why I want to work in this career. Seeing students thrive in areas which they previously despised is the most rewarding feeling for me. I love being able to pass on the knowledge and tricks I have developed to help students reach their full potential.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I think what makes me a Superprof is that I'm open to everyone of any ability and know what needs to be worked on to get to the desired goal. I promote a comfortable atmosphere where we can be honest with the problems we are facing to try and alleviate them. I cater each class specifically towards the student and what would be most valuable to them. At the end of each session to strengthen our confidence in the topic area, I pick out questions to show students the standard of questions that would be expected of them in the exam.
