About Whiz
I'm 23, originally from Oman, and I came to Ireland after finishing a math and politics degree at Exeter. I'm now finishing an MSc at Trinity, using statistics to study how families form and change across Europe — which sounds far from Leaving Cert math, but it's the same thing underneath: taking something messy and complicated and finding the structure in it.
I ended up loving math fairly late. For a long time it was the subject I found hardest and most frustrating, and what changed wasn't sudden talent — it was realizing I'd been trying to memorize methods instead of understanding why they worked. Once that flipped, everything got easier. That's most of what I try to pass on, and it's why I'm patient with students who think they're just "not a math person." I didn't think I was one either.
Outside academics I'm a competitive powerlifter. I trained with the Exeter team and competed nationally at BUCS, placing fourth in my weight class. Five or six years of that teaches you something about slow progress: you don't get stronger in a session, you get stronger over months of showing up. Studying works the same way, and it's a comparison a lot of students find easier to accept than being told to work harder.
I'm patient, hard to fluster, and I'd rather spend twenty minutes on why something works than rush through five questions you'll forget by Friday. If you're stuck, tell me — that's the useful information, not something to be embarrassed about.

Format
Online lessons over video call in MS Teams, Zoom, or a platform of your choice.
Length and frequency
One hour is standard; ninety minutes suits Leaving Cert students working through full past papers. Most students see the best results from one session a week over a sustained period rather than intensive blocks before exams — though I'm happy to do focused revision work in the run-up to mocks or the Leaving Cert itself.
What a lesson looks like
I'll ask beforehand what topic you're covering in school or where you're getting stuck. We work through problems together rather than me lecturing — you attempt, I watch where it breaks down, we fix the specific thing. I set a small amount of work between sessions, targeted at whatever was weakest, and we start the next lesson by going over it.
First lesson
Free, and mostly diagnostic. I'll set a few problems across different topics to find out where the actual gaps are, and we'll talk about what you're aiming for — passing, moving up a grade band, or the H1. That shapes everything after.
Materials
I work from the same past papers and marking schemes the exam uses, and I'll share notes and worked solutions after each session. No charge for materials.
