About Lee
I started my academic career part time with the Open University, where I obtained my Certificate in Natural Sciences. I then decided to study Chemistry full time at Cardiff University in October 2012. I am a mature student so I needed to do a preliminary year which included 3 x Biology, 3 x Physics, 3 x Chemistry and 2 x Maths modules at Cardiff Uni. First and second year went very well. I finished 2nd year with a first even though my son was born in the middle of the exam period! I was offered a Cardiff University Research Opportunity (CUROP) in organic electrochemistry on the strength of my 3rd year practical work. While carrying out CUROP in the summer after I graduated, I heard of an up coming PhD opportunity in Surface Chemistry with Cogent Power of Newport. I went for the interview and started my PhD in October 2016. Cogent Power make electrical Steel used in electricity transformers. My PhD involves looking in to new coatings for this steel. Part of my PhD includes demonstrating to undergraduates.
I have a great deal of experience in all areas of chemistry including organic, inorganic, physical and virtually all of the spectroscopic techniques and analysis.
I have a great deal of enthusiasm for chemistry. I love my work!
