About Serena

I am originally from a suburb right outside of Des Moines, IA. After 18 years of living in a relatively small suburb, I decided I was ready for the city life and decided to attend the University of Chicago where I received my BA in Economics.

After graduating from UChicago, I moved to NYC to work at Credit Suisse in their Global Markets division. After nearly two years there, I packed my bags and moved across the country to Los Angeles to start a job in Private Equity at Ares Management. Interestingly enough, working in finance for the past four years allowed me to identify what my true passion is: helping people. Though I spent the majority of my working hours in Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, I was lucky enough to also get the chance to be a mentor to several college students and young professionals, a diversity delegate, and an ESG champion, to name a few. The more exposure I got to these "extracurriculars" at work, the more I started to realize these experiences were my favorite aspects of the job.

After I came to this realization, I became extremely eager to apply my skills to career paths I feel are better suited to my ultimate mission: helping people and seeing the direct impact I'm having. Now, I am an MBA candidate at Columbia Business School and plan to pursue a career in career coaching afterward.

In my free time, I enjoy working out in all forms (walking, dancing, HIIT, lifting weights, to name a few), reading self-help books, experimenting with new recipes, and sharing the joy of good food with friends and family. I also find great solace in various outdoor activities, whether it's hiking through scenic landscapes or simply sitting down and embracing the tranquility of nature.
