About Lucas

As a Mechanical and Aerospace engineering student, I have encountered many STEM topics throughout my education and, at times, have had trouble with them. Whether it was not understanding the topic at first or just needing a new perspective, I find that all I really needed was guidance from a peer or teacher in the right direction, and I was able to comprehend and even master the material. I had applied this ideology to my 4-year self-run tutoring and enrichment program "Learning with Lucas", where I similarly guided and aided struggling students in learning STEM-related material and feeling confident in their application of it. I maintain a friendly relationship with all of my students while still keeping it professional, which I find to be best when learning new curricula. For credibility, I graduated from high school as valedictorian and maintained a 4.0 GPA in my university's honors college, both of which were largely due to my success in STEM courses.

About the lesson

-Prepares all materials necessary beforehand and provides extra resources if needed.
-Goes through examples and can walk students through problems when needed, but also knows when to take a step back and let the student work through the problem themselves.
-Can and will provide small breaks for students (5 minutes) when needed due to burnout/will talk to students about what they are interested in and see if I can use that to spark an interest or connection to the topic at hand.
-As a student myself who has gone through these classes, I teach knowing what works for students, have tried numerous learning methods myself, and can adapt to what each individual student needs.
-Graduating Valedictorian of my high school and maintaining a 4.0 GPA through an honors college my freshman year shows that not only have my learning methods worked for me, and therefore can possibly work for my students, but also shows that I am credible as someone who knows their topics.
-I have 4 years of experience with my self-run tutoring service, which I have dubbed "Learning with Lucas," where I teach STEM topics from basic algebra to advanced forms of calculus and adjacent topics like physics and statistics.
