About Michael
I have a solid background in maths and physics- I have A’s in SQA Advanced Highers in both subjects, a first-class BEng in Mechanical Engineering and am studying for a PhD in applied maths. I’m good at distilling tricky concepts into informal and simple terms, making them intuitive and easy to understand. Usually, I find when an idea is causing me difficulty to understand, I’m just missing one crucial piece of intuition that makes everything fall into place - once it clicks, I always find myself wondering how I didn’t understand the concept before! With that in mind, the goal of my lessons is to identify that missing piece and help you discover how it fits into the puzzle.

I find the best way to teach is to be friendly and approachable and ensure students are comfortable asking questions. It’s important to develop an understanding of a student’s personal learning preferences and tailor explanations to them, and ensure a solid understanding of topics with plenty of practice problems. I’m flexible with regards to frequency and length of lessons, and happy to work with you to find a routine that suits you.
