About Haaris

I'm Haaris, a foundation medical student at the University of Manchester.

I finished my A levels in the summer of 2022 so I have recent experience with actually taking exams, I completely understand what it feels like to be a student with exams on the horizon post-covid! I am an A* student in Economics and achieved an A grade in mathematics and physics. I have other academic achievements such as scoring in the 91st percentile of the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) and securing a place on a university of Manchester medicine course where only 4 people were given an offer out of 300+ applicants.

I have worked with students in both academic and non-academic context so I am comfortable with tutoring a wide variety of students and adapting to whatever style may be most suitable for them. Every student is capable of every grade, as long as they are prepared to put the hard work in and have the appropriate support for their course.

About the lesson

I believe every student is capable of the grades that they desire, regardless of their starting point. My teaching methodology is to equip students with the skills and knowledge to be able to revise at their best. The typical length of a session is one hour, and the focus will be determined with the student each session in order to provide flexibility. I have previously tutored classmates and other students who's grades range from A grade all the way to U grade. Some examples of things that I intend to work on with each student are:

• Thorough understanding of course content - ensuring that the student understands the course content to a high standard, the processes through which this is done depends on the student as I like to adapt my teaching style for each individual.
• Exam Technique - focusing on all four key skills that are required in an economics exam (Knowledge, Application, Analysis and Evaluation) to ensure that the student is equipped to score top marks. We focus on this through reviewing the students work, their thought process behind it and attempting previous exam questions.
• Time management - this is something that many students struggle with and require help in addressing in order to score top marks in the exam. We focus on this through reviewing how much time the student is spending on each exam question and forming a plan to use the allocated time effectively.

I have previous experience tutoring in both academic and non-academic contexts. My lessons are aimed at sixth form / college students that would like to achieve top grades for A level economics and AS level mathematics. I am most comfortable with tutoring Edexcel economics and I can cover any exam board for AS mathematics.
