About Joan
Completing an MSc in Mechanical Engineering at MIT provided the technical foundation for my 12 years of industry and teaching experience. SolidWorks often overwhelms students because they focus on buttons rather than physical reality. I emphasize surface modeling, design for manufacturing, and sheet metal design by teaching the mechanics behind the software. Parametric design feels intuitive once you understand how engineering drawings function in practice.
Extrude and revolve features become simple tools for complex geometry when you grasp the underlying physics. Mate constraints are just logical relationships that reflect real assembly hardware.
I help career switchers, university students, and CSWA candidates translate theoretical knowledge into functional designs. My teaching style remains methodical and warm throughout our time together. I look forward to working with you to solidify your understanding of these essential engineering concepts.

Why do so many students struggle to visualize the interaction between 2D sketches and 3D space? This question drives how I structure our time, focusing on bridge building between mathematical concepts and physical intuition. Whether you are prepping for the CSWA exam or refining complex assemblies, my 12 years of experience help demystify the process.
Practice sessions include realistic CSWA style exercises to build speed and accuracy. I bridge the gap between MIT level theory and the practical requirements of your specific project needs.
Learning is most effective when you understand the why behind every software command. Our time together will be productive, clear, and highly focused on your specific goals. You will leave these sessions with a firmer grasp of how to translate your ideas into robust engineering models. Success in design is a logical process.
